• I care that what I do adds value to my clients, my community, and, hopefully, to future generations. I want it to last. I want it to look good. I want to "leave things better" than I found them.

  • Durability. Precision. Beauty. These are always my aim. For every project.

  • I believe in creating spaces that feel good and are truly usable.

  • I don't cut corners. I don't use CNC machines or inferior materials. I don't put speed ahead of quality. If that jives with you, I'd love to discuss your project.

Restoration, Renovation, & Remodeling

Me in a nutshell

I believe in challenging mediocrity and creating environments that nurture people.

So, I’ve spent more than 25 years honing my skills as a fine craftsman, carpenter, and expert contractor.

I renovate spaces so that they function well, look beautiful, and feel great for people. So that they last and are resilient.

I care about quality, the longevity of what I produce, and my clients’ satisfaction.

For me, IKEA is a four-letter word, YouTube has way too many content creators and too few experts, and HGTV promotes unrealistic expectations.

I am not the cheapest contractor in town, nor am I the fastest. But, if you want quality work that is durable, tasteful, and has some flair, give me a call. I care about my clients as people and the integrity of my work and business practices, not flash or false promises.

I’ll let you in on a secret about renovation: it always takes longer than you want and costs more than you budget. That’s because there is nothing truly straightforward about remodeling or repairs; there is always something unexpected that crops up. It’s because people usually add to their project or change their minds along the way, which costs time and money. And, it’s because it’s always challenging to have strangers in your home, so even if everything goes smoothly, you can hardly wait to have them out of your space.

I’m not a contractor who talks a good talk and then hires out subs and you never see me again until you get the bill. I do most of the work myself and strictly oversee the work of anyone else on the project. I leave nothing to chance: I don’t let people with whom I’m not completely comfortable do work on my projects. I don’t work side by side with home owners as assistants (unless I’m just consulting). And I always pull the necessary permits and get the needed clearances so that you don’t end up with expensive fines from local code enforcement. I’ll bring the project through all the stages until I know I’ve delivered the results I’ve promised.

I guarantee you, I am way harder on my work than you will be. And, that’s okay—it’s what makes me a craftsman.

If this fits with what you want for your project, I’d love to hear from you.

Here are some of the things I do as a craftsman-contractor:

Trimwork

I offer precision manufacturing and installation of all types of trim—interior and exterior. From simple crown to reproducing window casing to handcrafted wood archways.

Millwork

I handcraft custom solid wood doors—entry and interior—and fabricate (or repair) old wood windows. I also offer custom mantels, reproduction corbels, and other wood details. And, I mill custom wood trim for my projects (including reproducing original historic trim) for other contractors or home owners who want to do the installation themselves.

Kitchens

I work on everything from full kitchen remodels to minor “sprucing up”: interior structural changes; custom handcrafted wood cabinets; freestanding or hanging individual cupboards and open shelving; wood venthood covers; replacement cabinet doors & drawer fronts; counter solutions (solid wood and copper); flooring; tile.

Baths

From full bathroom remodels to simple sprucing up. Custom wood vanities; custom, precision tile floors, showers, tub surrounds, and backsplashes; trim and fixtures.

Whole House Renovation

Start to finish, old house restoration and renovation is one of the most rewarding things I do. I love giving an old house another 100 years’ use. You can’t beat historic architecture and the high quality materials used in their construction, but the span of decades causes them problems. I’ve never come up against a problem I couldn't solve. And, if you are a DIYer, I offer consulting for whole house renovations as well.

Floors

Floors can make or break an interior. I specialize in restoring old wood floors, but I also install new wood flooring and tile.

Commercial Renovation

I have over a decade on (and off) Main Street renovation. Not much beats taking an old dilapidated building and bringing it back to life, refreshed and (legally!) occupied, and ready for the community to enjoy for decades to come.

exteriors

In addition to whole-house interior remodels, I do quite a lot of exterior restoration and renovation: wood siding, trim-work details, porches, window and door casings, custom-built and restored entry doors. I also build custom sheds, outdoor kitchens, and other garden enhancements.

Commercial Storefronts

If your business or building needs a facelift, you can’t go wrong with an updated storefront—sometimes it’s all you need. While I’ve done my share of metal, I specialize in custom, wood commercial building fronts—sure to draw customers and clients inside. They’ll last decades if properly maintained.
