Simon Ott, LLC

Since 1998, I’ve been working in restoration, renovation, and fine carpentry. I’ve honed my skills as a historic restorationist, a furniture maker, a trim carpenter, and, thanks to working on old buildings and homes, a trouble-shooter.

I believe humans need nurturing spaces that feel good, and that starts with the structural and aesthetic integrity of homes, offices, and businesses.

I’ve run my own general contracting company long enough to figure out what I love the most—detailed finish work, cabinetry & furniture, making an old building sound, and helping others figure out how to do their own repairs. Unlike many general contractors who hire everything out, I’ve worked in most areas of the job (including helping out—and, at times, advising—the speciality contractors). I always see the entire project through, and usually do most of the work myself.

There’s not a lot I haven’t seen and dealt with, which puts me in a good position to help you do it yourself.

It also means I can help other contractors who haven’t worked with old structures before, since those are a totally different ballgame. Ever tried to get a 100-year-old untouched building to pass code as a new coffee shop? I have. Ever had the code office tell you there’s no way to get an old building up to code so that the doors can open to the public? I have. They were wrong. Ever restored—in total or part—more than a dozen buildings along one Main Street that all successfully thrived afterward? I have.

Now, I split my time between renovations and remodeling, building/installing custom trim work, cabinetry, handcrafted fixtures & furniture, and helping you with do your own projects—be they full restorations or just how to best refinish your hardwood floors.

When I’m not working on the aforementioned, you can find me hanging out with my dog, Quill (also my job-site manager), helping my wife out in the garden or with her soil restoration business, restoring vintage trailers, and, when I have the chance, camping and hiking among my favorite “plants”—you guessed it, trees. The taller, the better.
